Draft Instructional Calendars: 2025/26 and 2026/27

The Board of Education for School District No. 64 (Gulf Islands) is required to create and approve a calendar that meets the legislative requirements of the School Act and the Board’s Collective Agreement with the Gulf Islands Teachers’ Association (GITA). This year, the Board is considering adopting calendars for the 2025/26 and 2026/27 school years as part of the district's consecutive three-year school calendar.

The draft calendars accommodate a four-day school week and meet the minimum hours of instruction required under the School Act. 

Notice of Motion

The Board of Education presented the following Notice of Motion at its October 11, 2023, public meeting:

That the Board of Education adopt school calendars for the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 school years as part of the local three-year school calendar. 

The motion will be presented at the regular Public Board meeting on February 14, 2024. The Notice of Motion will be added to the website along with the draft calendars and an online comments form for public input.

October 11, 2023                                         Board Meeting (Pender School). Notice of Motion.

October 16, 2023 – January 10, 2024        Board Meetings and District Website. 
                                                                      Public Feedback on 2025/26 to 2026/27 Calendars (4-day school week).

November 8, 2023                                       Board Meeting (Mayne School). Draft 2025/26 to 2026/27 Calendars Received by Board.

November 13, 2023                                     District Website, Email. Draft 2025/26 to 2026/27 Calendars Circulated/Posted for Public Feedback.

January 5, 2024                                           Final Deadline for Public Feedback on Draft Calendars.

January 10, 2024                                         Board Meeting (School Board Office). Public Feedback Considered for Changes to Draft Calendars.

January 15, 2024                                         District Website, Email. Final Drafts of Calendars Posted.

February 14, 2024                                        Board Meeting (School Board Office). Notice of Motion lifted for consideration. Final Draft of Calendars Approved.

March 31, 2024                                            Deadline for calendar submission to the Ministry.

Feedback will be collected until January 5, 2024. Comments will be submitted to the Board of Education and changes to the draft calendar will be considered at the public meeting on January 10, 2024. The Board of Education will make its final decision regarding the proposed calendars at the February 14, 2024, public meeting.

Once passed by the Board and approved by the Ministry of Education, final calendars will be posted on the school district website and circulated to families and staff (at least one month before the end of the current school year as per the School Act).
